Still smarting from an overpriced, underinteresting dinner at a famous Manhattan restaurant, I found Rubicon to be a very pleasant contrast. For a start, the wine list really is stunning. Replete with a panoply of huge Bordeaux and California reds, it also had a wide selection from other regions, as well as high quality half-bottles and by-the-glass offerings. And most important, an attentive and knowledgable sommelier. The scallops and foie-gras were excellent, and the pheasant in blood orange sauce was beautifully prepared and exquisitely tender. The lack of pretentiousness, focus on great food and wine, and reasonable prices make this a fabulous dining experience.
